From Our Director
Before I share with you all the exciting things on the horizon for 2009, allow me to do a quick summary of 2008. It was a great year for educating and getting the word out about real nutrition! It began in February with the Growing Connections Conference featuring our own Julie Kowalski and Naomi Martoia teaching the classes that were specifically developed by Julie for Healthy Traditions Network. The afternoon featured Dr. David Brownstein on “Drugs That Don’t Work and Natural Therapies That Do.” It was a sold-out crowd. Next came Friday Night Live featuring Dr. Ng on Brain Toxins, another sold-out event.

Here is a partial list of farmers that members of HTN have cow shares with. If you know of a name that is missing please send the contact information for the farm to info@htnetwork.org. As always it is your job to be an educated consumer and interview the farmer as to their growing practices. A trip out to the farm is recommended before you enter into any partnership.

Why Worms?

There were chuckles and laughter recently as I divided my redworm colony in half so a friend could start her own. Worms and the whole idea of caring for them seem to inspire no end of jokes, and I was laughing along with everyone else. Of course, we tend to laugh where there is a disconnect, expectations that have been in some way violated. Caring for worms just isn’t “normal”.

Nourishing Recipe Corner

Since the weather here in Michigan is extremely cold and snowy, a nice bowl of chili hits the spot. This chili is easy to throw together and is nourishing, warming and comforting!! This is a dish I just throw together without a recipe so I have estimated amounts the best I can, but it is very flexible so you can spice it up or down and add anything or make substitutions as needed. You can easily make this doubled or tripled for a crowd.
